Incarnate Word Academy is wasting no time preparing this year’s high school students for their college careers. One of the many ways is by holding a college fair, which will be on Sunday, Sept. 9, from 4-6 p.m.
The fair will include about 20 universities, including Baylor University, Southwestern University and the Art Institute of Austin. As part of the IWA College Fair, a financial aid representative will be available to answer questions and discuss the financial aid process.
“We are gathering representatives from these institutions to provide students and their families the ability to compare academic programs,” Academic and Guidance Counselor Mitzi Witt said. “This is an opportunity for students in our community to begin charting the course of their college path.”
Students and parents can meet one-on-one with representatives to learn about admission requirements, course offerings, campus environment, as well as other information pertinent to the college-selection process.
Incarnate Word Academy will be the first school to use the new TACRAO electronic barcode/scanner solution to improve traffic flow at the fair and streamline follow-up efforts between students and the universities of their choice.
Students can register in advance online at www.gotocollegefairs.com. This makes navigating the fair and collecting information from multiple colleges and universities much easier for students. By pre-registering, students can print a bar coded confirmation to be used at the fair as an electronic ID. Pre-registration is not required to attend the fair.
As the process of applying to and selecting a college becomes more and more competitive and complex, IWA is committed to providing students and families with college-planning resources.
In the coming weeks, Incarnate Word Academy will be hosting college visits for students during school hours along with a senior workshop—complete with assistance on college applications, resumes and essays.
