Hundreds will stand up against heart disease in women Friday dressed in red and joining arms to create a chain outside CHRISTUS Spohn hospitals in Alice, Corpus Christi and Kingsville.
It’s part of ‘Go Red for Women’ month when each February the American Heart Association works to raise awareness of heart disease in women. Heart disease remains the number one killer in women 20-years or older.
While cardiovascular disease traditionally is considered a man’s disease, one in three women will die from it, according to the American Heart Association.
For the past decade, ‘Go Red’ events have aimed to reduce the risks of heart disease in women through education, encouragement and awareness.
