Bishop Wm. Michael Mulvey celebrated the opening Mass for a Spiritual Development Day held Aug. 1 at Blessed John Paul II High School for administrators, faculty and staff of Catholic Schools. Bishop Mulvey said in his homily “all of us are part of the teaching mission of the Church but that there is a significant more to what we teach…this more is Jesus Christ.”
After Mass, Kathy Hendricks, a national consultant with the William H. Sadlier Co., made a presentation on "Seeking Spiritual Balance in Off-Kilter Times." She told educators that sometimes life feels like a three-ring circus. “We find ourselves teetering on a tightrope that is strung between chaotic activity and daily regimens,” she said.
The spiritual development day was only the start of three days of professional development put on by the Office of Catholic Schools with the Diocese of Corpus Christi. The following day, educators returned for a professional development day on the topic of "Catholic School Law: What You Need to Know."
Sister Mary Angela Shaughnessy, General Legal Counsel for St. Catharine College in Kentucky and Dean of the Graduate School presented workshop. Sister Mary Angela, a former Catholic school principal, has authored more than 30 books and is a national expert on Catholic and private education, church ministry and civil law.
The in-service was completed on Aug. 3 with new teacher orientation at Ss. Cyril & Methodius Catholic School.
