The Diocese of Corpus Christi Cathedral Concert Series 2015-16 presents "Celtic Meets Classical!" on Tuesday, March 17, at 7:30 p.m. "Celtic Meets Classical!"
combines tunes with flute and violin. Juilliard graduates Shawn Wyckoff and Maria Millar have soloed at Lincoln Center, The Kennedy Center and Carnegie Hall.
Their double-lives as Celtic musicians, however, have taken them down an entirely different path: Millar has toured as the dancing fiddler in Riverdance on Broadway and Riverdance: The Show, and Wyckoff has been spotted skiing, rollerblading and dancing across stages while playing Ireland’s most beloved jigs and reels.
"Celtic Meets Classical!" will feature Celtic music virtuosity featuring singalong favorites “Danny Boy” and “When Irish Eyes Are Smiling,” hyper-instrumental renditions of traditional tunes “Rocky Road to Dublin” and Riverdance‘s “Mason’s Apron,” audience-driven improvisation and even some fiddle-inspired American instrumental classics.
"Maria and Shawn take your breath away as they transform the flute and violin into a Celtic symphony of sounds – you have to see to believe it! Hear your favorites as though for the very first time; experience Celtic Meets Classical in the resounding space of Corpus Christi Cathedral," Cathedral Choir director said.
The concert is free thanks to a grant from CITGO Refinery, a major contributor of the concert series for 32 years. For more information call (361) 888-7444.
