“Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you” (Jeremiah 1:5).
Bishop Michael Mulvey ordained Deacon David Thomas Brokke from the Society of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity (SOLT) to the sacred order of the priesthood at Corpus Christi Cathedral on July 18.
During his homily, Bishop Mulvey thanked Brokke for being “a wise and brave servant. You have received your life from the hands of God. It is God who has formed you and created you,” he said to Brokke. “This is your truth; this is who you are.
“God is gazing upon you, and His love abides in you. That is the life of Jesus Christ in you, my brother. This will be your joy, even in the darkest times. You are sustained by His gaze in this moment. His gaze is his love for you.”
Those involved in Father Brokke’s formation took an active part in the ordination Mass. His mother Gwendolyn Brokke, sisters Emily Selenski and Alison Arconti bore his new vestment. His vesting priests were his spiritual advisor, Father James Bilot, and rector, Father Mark Wendling, SOLT. His father Vernon, Sr., his sisters and their husbands participated in the Mass as gift bearers.
Concelebrants included SOLT priests, diocesan priests and visiting priests and many members of the SOLT community were in attendance.
The following day, Father Brokke celebrated his first Mass at St. Joseph in Corpus Christi.
The Society of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity has assigned him to St. Ann's Mission among the Chippewa and Metis on the Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation in Belcourt, North Dakota.
