Bishop Wm. Michael Mulvey has made a number of priest assignments to better serve the Diocese of Corpus Christi.
The bishop appointed Father John McKenzie as pastor of St. James Catholic Church in Refugio for a six-year term effective July 1. In addition to his parochial duties, Father McKenzie will be allowed to meet his monthly commitment with the military reserves.
The bishop also assigned Father Patrick Serna as pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Sinton, also for a six-year term effective Aug. 24.
Father Randy Cain has resigned as pastor at St. Theresa in Corpus Christi and Bishop Mulvey named him associate pastor at St. Patrick in Corpus Christi effective Aug. 1. Father Cain will also have duties at Nuestra Senora de San Juan de Los Lagos, Madre de la Iglesia and Blessed John Paul II High School.
Finally, Bishop Mulvey named Father Don Downey, JCL, to replace Father Cain as pastor of St. Theresa Parish effective Aug. 1 for a six-year term. Father Downey will continue to celebrate Mass for the Saint Michael the Archangel - Latin Mass Community, which will begin meeting at St. Theresa’s.
“I thank these men for their commitment as priests, their loyalty to the Church and their respect for the office of the bishop. I look forward to a continued collaboration with all of them as their bishop and co-worker in the Lord's vineyard,” Bishop Mulvey said.
