Bishop Wm. Michael Mulvey celebrated the Vigil Mass at the Corpus Christi Cathedral on Saturday, Sept. 7, in communion with Pope Francis who called the universal church to commit to prayer and fasting on the vigil of the birth of the blessed Virgin Mother for peace in Syria and the Middle East.
During his homily, the bishop read a letter he had asked that it be read at Vigil and Sunday Masses throughout the diocese. In his letter he called the faithful to “join with the whole church through prayer and fasting to be peacemakers so that our world and the world that we leave to future generations will be a world ruled by peace.”
After Mass, Bishop Mulvey gave a summary of the Holy Father’s homily earlier that day at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome in which the pope called for an end to war and violence.
The bishop also led the congregation in praying the rosary and in adoration before the Blessed Sacrament.
