Bishop Michael Mulvey blessed the new Queenship of Mary adoration chapel at Christi the King parish in Corpus Christi on Sunday, Aug. 17. "It is a beautiful, beautiful structure. Many moments of peace can be found here," Bishop Mulvey said.
Parishioners Alberto Martinez, Carlos Rodriguez, Ben Mota and Robert Boemker built the chapel. Martinez, who spearheaded the project, said work was begun under Father Glen Mullan and completed under the leadership of Father Edgar Barrameda, SOLT, current administrator of the parish.
"I would ask," Bishop Mulvey, said, "those of you who will come to pray, and many of you will, that you will reach beyond yourselves as the Holy Father is saying so beautifully. Pray for your neighbor, pray for your enemies, pray for your priests, the sisters, your deacons, your friends, for those who are being persecuted and for those that are coming across our border seeking a better life. And if you don't mind, please pray for me too."
Father Barrameda thanked the four men who worked on the chapel for giving of their time and talent.
"On behalf of the whole parish I would like to thank you for all the time, dedication and talent that you have given to make this project a reality," Father Barrameda said. He also thanked financial sponsors and all parish ministries for their contributions.
"Once again we have proven that if we work together everything is possible," Father Barrameda said.
The parish has organized new ministry of "Adorers" headed by Alice Gonzalez. Each Adorer will spend one hour a week before the Blessed Sacrament. The chapel, located at 3423 Rojo Street in Corpus Christi, will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
