Bishop Michael Mulvey has asked that a special collection be taken at all Masses in the Diocese of Corpus Christi this weekend, May 30-31, to assist the many families and residents who have lost loved ones, homes, businesses and possessions to recent floods.
The devastation caused by recent torrential rains, tornados and accompanying flooding in the Coastal Bend and Central Texas has impacted the lives of hundreds of Texans and left many of them homeless and with the loss of all of their belongings. Catholic Charities of Corpus Christi has been assisting Families and residents affected by the Nueces River flooding with emergency supplies.
Also afflicted by the Memorial Day weekend storms are residents of the Texas Hill Country near the town of Wimberley. This area in Central Texas is part of the
Diocese of Austin and is served by Catholic Charities of Central Texas.
The proceeds of the special collection will be forwarded to the Diocese of Austin, and ultimately to Catholic Charities of Central Texas, to aid in the relief effort. Bishop Mulvey encourages the faithful to be generous with their monetary gifts and especially with their prayers for those who have been impacted by this tragedy.
Those wishing more information, or who wish to volunteer or assist the Wimberley relief effort with a donation are asked to go to the
Catholic Charities of Central Texas Web site.
