Of the three newly ordained priests, Fr. Thomas Swierc stayed in Texas: he serves as parochial vicar at St. Philips the Apostle Parish in Corpus Christi. How is he doing? “Very busy, but I am quite enjoying it,” he says.
Hearing confessions is one of his favorite tasks: “Being the Lord’s instrument of love and peace is wonderful.” Usually, there is one hour of confession time every Monday evening, but he always spends an extra half hour to finish the line, besides confession times before Sunday masses.
Being with the youth and young adults is another favorite part of his work: “Once a week. We have adoration for young people, and we have several youth groups,” he shares. But he also administers the Anointing of the Sick, and he will start celebrating mass for residents in an assisted living facility,
Preaching is still not his favorite thing, “but I’ve gotten better at it.” He thinks it will never be one of his favorite tasks as a priest, but he is getting some compliments, “which is very encouraging.”
