Graduation time is just around the corner – and Bishop Mulvey invited the high school and college graduates of 2025 to a fun-filled afternoon in his backyard. “BBQ with the Bishop” is already a tradition in the Diocese of Corpus Christi.
The students arrived at the Bishop’s residence on Ocean Drive around 1 pm. They had time to connect with fellow students and learn more about the Newman Centers in Corpus Christi and Kingsville and the diocese's Young Catholic Adults group.
Vocation Director Bob Cummings organized an icebreaker game to help them get to know students from other high schools before the delicious hamburgers and hot dogs, prepared and provided by the Knights of Columbus, were served.
Some college graduates from Corpus Christi and Kingsville highlighted the importance of the Newman Centers in their lives as students: a “home away from home” where they could build friendships and feel supported, but also a place to deepen their faith and become missionary disciples.
Bishop Mulvey advised that they connect with the Newman Centers at their respective colleges, as being a Christian alone can be challenging. He then presented each graduate with a specially designed graduation medal for 2025, celebrating the milestone they achieved.
The afternoon concluded with a “Prayer for the Journey ahead,” where the graduates asked God to grant them “the courage always to seek out Your will, shaping me into the person You intended me to be.”
