Several Incarnate Word Academy students placed in the 2014 Visionarios Youth Art Contest, sponsored by the Art Museum of South Texas and Flint Hills Resources.
The Visionarios Youth Art Contest is held every year at the Art Museum of South Texas and features artists from first to 12th grade from around the coastal bend.
"The high school level won three first place awards, one second place award, two third place awards, and two honorable mentions," High School Level Art Teacher Mrs. Kathy Towers said.
Students used various mediums including watercolor, oil pastels, and colored pencils.
"Our first place middle level winner used paper and watercolors," Middle Level Art Teacher Mrs. Andrea Limke said. "It's amazing."
First place awards received $100, second place awards received $50, third place awards received $25, and honorable mention awards received a family pass to the museum.
The students' artwork is available for viewing from now until March 16 at the Art Museum of South Texas, 1902 North Shoreline Boulevard in Corpus Christi.
IWA Middle Level winner, Millicent Alvarado, won first place in Mixed Media.
IWA High School Level winners for the art competition were Jessica Bang, first place in Art I and II Mixed Media; Mackenzie Thering, third place and Lucero Perez, honorable mention in Art III and IV Mixed Media; Harmon Dobson, first place, Ellie Martin, third place and Jessica Bang, honorable mention in Art I and II Photography; Lucero Perez, first place and David Beecroft, second place in Art III and IV Photography.
