Some 300 people attended in the 2nd Annual Adult Formation Summer Camp held at the at the Chancery and Corpus Christi Cathedral classrooms from July 16-22. The Department of Evangelization and Catechesis of the Diocese of Corpus Christi sponsored the camp, which included 19 workshops.
Margaret Alarilla, Director of Evangelization for the diocese, said that attendance exceeded expectations. Classes were designed for directors of religious education programs, Catholic schoolteachers and others who are involved as catechists in their parish, school or ministry. The sessions were also open to anyone wishing to learn more about their Catholic faith.
One of the more popular courses was Theology of the Body, which had some 50 catechists enrolled. Colin MacIver from St. Scholastica Academy in Louisiana and co-author of a middle-school textbook on the subject presented the workshop on Theology of the Body held at St. Joseph Hall.
Other workshops covered church history, liturgy and sacraments, prayer and spirituality, RCIA, Catholic doctrine, Catholic morality, young adult and campus ministry, and the New Evangelization.
Alarilla said she hopes to have more workshops throughout the year, on a seasonal basis and depending on the availability of instructors.
The next faith formation opportunity will be at the annual Ministry Conference, which this year will feature San Antonio Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller and a host of nationally renowned speakers. The conference is scheduled for Jan. 12, 2013 at the American Bank Center.
Catechetical opportunities are available year-round from the St. Paul School of Catechesis.
