While many developments in today's world seem on the gloomy side, the 19 artists of the international performing arts group Gen Verde found meaning and hope in the words of Jesus – and this message inspired them to put on a show that is exciting, fun and meaningful at the same time. The 19 artists from 14 countries live up to the words they share in their songs, communicating with their life experiences the message of hope they found in the Gospel.
The band is a unique project: each member felt called by God to leave everything behind, and they dedicated their lives to spreading the message of the Holy Gospel – through music. Their experience – for example, an American songwriter, a South Korean composer, an Italian actress and a Brazilian musician developing songs together – shows unity in diversity is possible. They put the dialogue they promote into practice among themselves, building bridges among their different cultural heritages and social backgrounds. Putting together their talents and their internationality brings about a cultural richness that is both unique and compelling. Recently, they performed at World Youth Day in Lisbon, energizing their audience with their performance.
The group had just landed in the U.S., preparing for their first workshops and concerts in New York City. After Philadelphia, Atlanta and Houston, they will arrive in Corpus Christi on October 9. On Tuesday evening, they will perform an Acoustic Concert, “Arise – Called to Something Greater,” especially for young adults (St. Pius X, Msgr. R. Shirley Youth Center, 813 Lum Ave). Wednesday to Friday is dedicated to the Youth Performing Arts Camp, working with teenagers in different workshops.
Gen Verde Live! in Concert starts on Saturday, October 14, at 7 pm at The Arena at Mary Carroll High School, the debut performance in the newly constructed arena, which is like a small American Bank Center. Everyone can attend – thanks to sponsors, the access is complimentary. Reserve your spot by signing up at diocesecc.org/genverde.Donations are welcome and needed to cover the cost of these unique events.
The members of Gen Verde are excited about coming to South Texas: “We can’t wait to meet y’all in Corpus Christi!”
