Are you tired of seeing the child in your care struggle with schoolwork and not know how to get help? Are you unsure of how to have the school staff listen and respond to your concerns?
Cynthia Singleton has been advocating effectively for her son as well as clients to get the programs and services they need in the public school for over 15 years. She sat on the state committee that wrote the Texas Autism Supplement, the guidelines of services that must be considered for students with autism. She is passionate about sharing her expertise with caregivers who are new to the special education process. She enjoys empowering caregivers with the knowledge and skills that can turn ARD/IEP discussions from “I’m sorry we don’t have the money for that” to “How much do you think your child needs?”
In this dynamic 60 min talk, attendees will learn:
A basic overview of the special ed supports and services at school
How to stop the school’s number one tactic to avoid providing services: stalling
How to effectively request help for the student you care for
Your rights and the rights of your student
Local resources that can help when you’re not getting the answers that help
