The American Federation of Pueri Cantores (AFPC) is proud to announce that the Cathedral Youth Choir of Corpus Christi Cathedral, Corpus Christi, Texas under the direction of Lee Gwozdz has again been chosen as “Lead Choir” for the International Congress of Pueri Cantores (ICPC).
This is the second time an American Choir has been asked to serve in this capacity in the history of the congress. Recognized by the Vatican as one of the top Catholic Youth Choirs in the United States, ICPC officials awarded this honor to the choir for the Rome Congress in 2010.
Prior to this honor, officials heard the Cathedral Youth Choir at the American Festival of the AFPC held in Washington, D.C. in 2008. They were impressed with the work of Lee Gwozdz, who conducted the Choirs from throughout America for the Festival Mass at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.
The role of “Lead Choir” will place the group in close proximity to the Holy Father at both the Papal Audience and Mass in order to lead the over 6000 young singers from throughout the world.
Three other choirs from different countries will join the Cathedral Youth Choir as “Lead Choir”. The International Congress will take place in Vatican City from Dec. 30-Jan.1, 2016 culminating with a New Year’s Day Papal Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica with Pope Francis presiding.
Another highlight of the Congress will be a Papal Audience with over 6000 Youth Singers from throughout the world.
