The Diocese of Corpus Christi’s Vocations and Youth Ministry office are sponsoring an essay contest in celebration of Vocation Awareness Week, Jan. 9-14, 2012. The contest is open to all Catholic students in the Diocese of Corpus Christi. The deadline for all essay entries is Dec. 2.
Contestants can submit entries for any one or all of the topics. The essay topics are: “What is your understanding of the priest today?”, “What does it take to give your whole life to Christ?”, “Which priest(s) do you most admire and why?” and “Which priest(s) have most influenced you and how?”
Essays should include the student’s complete name, address, contact telephone number, email (if possible), age, grade, school attending and parish. All entries must be typed and doubled spaced. The essays should be emailed to [email protected] by Dec. 2.
Winners will be named in three age group categories. These categories are open to Catholic students in public, private and parochial schools.
Category #1 is for elementary students (1st-5th grade). The essay for this group must be up to 250 words. The winner of the elementary category will receive a $100 prize. Category #2 is for middle School students (6th-8th grade) and requires a 500-word essay. Winner of the middle school category receives $300. Category #3 is for high school students (9-12th grade) and asks for a 750-word essay. The winner for High School category receives $500.
The Office of Vocations reserves the right to make the final decision as to which contestant(s) will receive a prize. There will only be one winner in each category. All awards will be issued in a Visa card form, however the Office of Vocations also reserves the right to alter the prize at any time or to offer an alternative prize of similar value.
