Epiphany, or the manifestation of Christ to the magi, is the last weekend of the Christmas season. As in Mt 2:1, “After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem.” While there’s no number mentioned in the Bible, traditionally, we imagine three kings coming from the East. At Corpus Christi Cathedral, the Religious Education students of the Cathedral and Sacred Heart Church enact the Nativity Scene on Epiphany every year, following an 800-year-old tradition started by St. Francis in Greccio. After the 5:30 pm Vigil Mass, parents and parishioners gathered in the courtyard of the Cathedral. There were Mary and Joseph, shepherds, sheep and cows, and a big choir of Angels with trumpets and halos. Nellie Serna, part of the Religious Education Team at the Cathedral, had prepared the event with the catechists. Fr. James Stembler, Rector of the Cathedral, was impressed. “That was just beautiful. Beautiful! You brought the meaning of Christmas right here before our eyes.” He blessed all participants and visitors. During Mass, celebrant Fr. Jose Gutierrez said that Jesus is the true King, and he asked the people, “Do you believe that?” Then, the following question would be, “What can you bring the King?” Of course, your heart!
