According to IWA Swim Coach Myra Nelson, Incarnate Word Academy Middle Level swim team broke old school records at their first meet on March 7 at the IWA Middle Level Swim and Dive Invitational at the Corpus Christi Natatorium.
Andrea Reyes, Rebeka Roberts, Frances Lee, Anna Krestsinger, and Jonah Lugo competed in the sixth grade division. “These swimmers competed in some of the hardest events for young swimmers: the individual medley, butterfly, and breaststroke,” Nelson said. Jonah Lugo’s new school records are in the 25 free (14.67), 100 free (1:12.61), and 50 fly (41.99).
Gavin Vicknair and Connor Hein competed in the seventh grade division. “These two boys place high enough in their events to take 4th place in team scoring,” Nelson said. Gavin Vicknair’s new school records are in the 25 free (12.93), 50 back (37.36), and 50 breast (40.42).
Payton Vicknair, Annabelle Sanders, Nicholas Hein, and Kyle Wendel competed in the eighth grade division. “This was Annabelle’s first swim meet and first year swimming on any team,” Nelson said. “Payton has done summer swimming in the past, but this is the first time for her to join our Angel team.”
The eighth grade girls earned seventh place in team scoring. Payton Vicknair’s new school records are in the 50 free (31.62), 50 fly (36.18), and 100 individual medley (1:24.98).
The eighth grade boys earned third place in team scoring. Nicholas Hein’s new school records are in the 25 free (14.17) and 50 breaststroke (48.91). Kyle Wendel’s new school records are in the 50 free (30.04) and 100 free (1:10.01).
“With such a great first meet, this year looks to be one of the best IWA Middle Level seasons ever,” Nelson said.
The swim team’s next meet is March 14 at the Tuloso-Midway Natatorium. Diving events will begin at 8 a.m. and the swim events will begin shortly after noon.
