The Incarnate Word Academy boys and girls varsity swim teams have advanced to compete at the TAPPS State Swim Championships after qualifying at the regional swim meet on Jan. 27.
The teams will leave campus on Thursday, Feb. 11 at 1 p.m. to compete in the state meet on Feb. 12 at the Josh Davis Natatorium in San Antonio with the races to start at 3 p.m.
“The swim teams have had a great year,” Coach Myra Nelson said.
At regionals, the girls’ team finished just 12 points behind Austin St. Michaels to take fourth place. The boys’ team received fifth place behind Austin Regents.
Bronze medals were awarded to Elijah Wolfe in the 100 fly, Grace Walsh in the 100 free, and the 400 girls’ relay team, which consists of Grace, Carolina Munoz, Payton Vicknair and Claire Walsh.
The girls’ 200 free relay team, which consists of Claire Walsh, Munoz, Vicknair ans Grace Walsh, took fourth place. The 200 medley relay team, which consists of Elizabeth Nicholson, Sara Beth Becker, Taren Moore and Alyssa Milligan, received fifth place.
In the girls’ individual results, Vicknair received fourth place in the 200 individual medley and sixth place in the 100 fly. Nicholson received fourth place in the 100 breast and eighth place in the 200 individual medley. Claire Walsh received sixth place in the 100 breast and seventh place in the 50 free. Grace Walsh received eighth place in the 200 free.
The boys’ 400 free relay team, which consists of Wolfe, William Yeager, Travis Moore and Matthew Moore, received fourth place. The boys’ 200 free relay team, which consists of Wolfe, Yeager, Moore and Charles received fifth place. The boys’ 200 medley relay team, which consists of Moore, Moore, Nicholas Hein and Kyle Wendel, received eighth place.
In the boys’ individual results, Wolfe received fourth place in the 50 free and Yeager received fourth place in the 100 breast. Yeager also received fifth place in the 50 free. Hein received eighth place in the 500 free.
