Parishioners of the Diocese of Corpus Christi contributed $26,655 to The Catholic University of America in the 2011 special collection. The university, known as “the Bishops’ university,” is celebrating its l25th anniversary.
“Last year, the National Collection was a big success and I thank you and the people of your diocese for your continuing generosity again this year,” university president John Garvey said, in a letter to Bishop Wm. Michael Mulvey. “Every dollar that you contribute goes to provide scholarships for our deserving students, who come to us from all 50 states.”
These scholarships are important not only for the recipients, but also for the Church in the United States. Catholic University traditionally has served as the training ground for the future leaders of the Church, Garvey said.
“As president, I am determined that we nurture the Catholic intellectual tradition at The Catholic University of America, not only to sustain and strengthen its Catholic identity for the sake of the institution and its students, but also to serve as a model to other Catholic universities,” Garvey said.
With the ongoing support and the continued generosity of the people of the Diocese of Corpus Christi, the university will continue to provide an excellent education to its students, offering them a clear path to pursue their vocations as good Catholic citizens and leaders of our Church in the decades to come, Garvey said.
