JP II's Remi Garza makes top 20 in Corpus Christi Idol contest

St. John Paul II High School senior Remi Garza made the top 10 of the "Corpus Christi Idol" competition to be held at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi's Performing Arts Center on Feb. 26-27.

Garza was at La Palmera Mall last Sunday, Feb. 21, with a friend while auditions were going on at the food court and his friend talked him into auditioning. He did not really think he would get selected because he had never performed on stage in front of an audience. He was very nervous, he said.

Garza made the first cut at Friday's competition at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi but was eliminated on Saturday.

" We are truly proud of him and his accomplishment," the school's development director Laura Okoniewski said.
