Thirty seven people attended a training session at St. John of the Cross in Orange Grove on Saturday, July 16. Jaime Reyna, director of the office of Youth Ministry for the Diocese of Corpus Christi conducted the training, entitled “Discern God’s Call to Lead & Catechize.”
Participants came from both St. John and its mission, St. Francis of Assisi Mission in Lagarto.
The training agenda was directed at leadership and discernment for ministry leaders and volunteers. It included topics such as, meaning of hospitality, importance of prayer life, discerning God’s call and barriers presenting a ministry from growing.
Other matters discussed were the upcoming Youth Spectacular in September, youth ministry, small families and role of pastor’s leadership.
“All these leaders wanted to know how to recruit and lead in ministry but also be able to keep a prayer life and discern God's calling,” Reyna said.
The workshop was collaborated by the Office of Youth Ministry and working with St. John’s pastor, Father Prince Kuruvila.
“The workshop was actually received more as a retreat by the participants. At the end of the day many commented on how much they needed to learn and enjoyed the day's events, talks, ice breaker activities and moment of adoration and confession,” Reyna said.
