Parents, students and staff attended the blessing and dedication ceremony for the new Sister Catherine Café at Incarnate Word Academy, which was dedicated to Sister Catherine Brehony, IWBS on Nov. 4.
After more than 65 years of service and dedication to the school, the retirement of Sister Catherine was announced at the Mass. From 1959 to 2015, she has served as a teacher, department head, sponsor, counselor and book store manager.
Father José Salazar celebrated Mass and blessed the Sister Catherine Café, which is located at the entrance of the Mother Patricia Gunning Gymnasium.
“This is an exciting time for Incarnate Word Academy,” IWA President and CEO Sammie H. Grunwald said. “The newly remodeled concession area was made possible through the generosity of a grateful IWA alumnus in recognition of Sister Catherine, whose quiet and humble spirit has enlightened, inspired, and strengthened generations of IWA Angels.”
