Saint Anne’s Feast 2012 will be celebrated at Saint Anne’s Mission in Encino, Texas on Sunday, July 29, at 9 a.m. The public is invited to attend this annual event honoring the parish’s patron saint.
Saint Anne is the mother of Mary and grandmother of Jesus. Her feast day falls on the July 26 every year, but in this small community of Encino, her celebration is on the Sunday following the 26th so everyone can attend.
The celebration begins with a novena that ends on her feast day. On Sunday’s celebration, the event starts with a precession in which candles and flowers are carried and offered to Saint Anne. Following this church members walk in with the flags and banners honoring Saint Anne.
All that attend this holy Mass in her name will be given a booklet of Saint Anne’s story and prayers and a medal of her. After Mass, a complementary lunch will be served to all the guests that attended.
Plans are being made to have three priests celebrate Mass together and music played by a mariachi group.
Donations are accepted from all who wish to help off-set the costs of the event. Encino’s Saint Anne’s Church is one of the few, if not the only one, that celebrates this feast day in Texas. This is the sixth year that this event is held in Encino. This day is also known as “grandparents’ day.”
