Sacred Heart Parish in Mathis will celebrate a Blue Mass in honor of fist responders on Saturday, Sept. 24, at 6 p.m. The Mass will be held at the Parish Hall due to construction at the church.
All public safety employees, including law enforcement officers, corrections officers, 911 dispatchers, firefighters and EMS personnel are invited to attend.
Several public safety employees from throughout the Diocese of Corpus Christi will be recognized for their service to their communities and parishes.
A dinner, sponsored by Knights of Columbus Council 116633 will be held after the Mass. Family and friends of first responders are welcome.
The Blue Mass dates back to 1934 when the uniforms worn by many in this profession were blue.
The Blue Mass honors St. Michael the Archangel, Patron Saint of those employed in the public safety field, pays tribute to those who continue to serve in the pubic safety field and remembers those who have given their lives in the line of duty.
The Sacred Heart Parish Hall is located at 217 West San Patricio Avenue in Mathis.
