Registration is underway now through July 15 for the King of the Court 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament coordinated by the Diocese of Corpus Christi Office of Youth Ministry for youth in grades 6-12. The tournament will be held at the St. John Paul II High School gym on Saturday, July 23, from 9 a.m.–4 p.m.
"The tournament is to all youth whether or not they attend a church youth group," said Jaime Reyna, director of the Office of Youth Ministry. "The purpose of this event is to provide more diocesan sports related events for the youth in our diocese and to bring all youth together in fellowship, prayer and games while reminding ourselves that everything we do should be to give glory to God."
Providing this event helps youth meet other youth from different areas and has them join together in prayer before games and fun in a Christ-like atmosphere, Reyna said. It also allows an opportunity for the teens to help charities that serve those in need and have teens think about serving others instead of themselves.
The Diocese of Corpus Christi Office of Youth Ministry has partnered with several local charities for this event. All of the registration fees collected from each team will be donated to a charity. Teams can choose which charity they would like to support from the following list: Ark Assessment Center & Emergency Shelter for Youth; Catholic Charities; Mother Teresa Shelter; the Food Bank of Corpus Christi; the Women’s Shelter of South Texas; and Corpus Christi Hope House.
Teams will consist of youth from the 2015-16 school year. High school teams must consist of players in 9-12 grades and middle school teams will include players in 6-8 grades. There will be no co-ed teams for this tournament.
