The Diocese of Corpus Christi took delivery of a 35-passenger bus on Wednesday, July 27. The bus will pick up students from Alice and Robstown attending St. John Paul II High School, beginning this school year, which starts on Aug. 8.
Currently 18 students from Alice and Robstown are scheduled to use the bus. The bus will also be available to Bishop Garriga Middle Preparatory School students who have siblings that attend JPII High School.
“We are very excited to make Catholic education more accessible and extremely grateful to the Diocese,” Father Peter Martinez, president of the two schools said.
The bus is being credited with an increase in student enrollment, according to Father Martinez.
The bus will be housed at St. Joseph School in Alice. It will leave St. Joseph at 7 a.m., arrive at St. Anthony’s in Robstown at 7: 30 a.m. and at JPII at 8 a.m. After school, the bus will depart JPII at 5:30 p.m. allowing time for students to participate in extracurricular activities. A study hall will be available for students who are not involved in extracurricular activities.
The bus will not be used for sports tournaments, trips or for other extracurricular activities.
