Even in the brutal heat of summer, the work is going ahead. The foundation of the new computer lab and library building at Saints Cyril & Methodius School in Corpus Christi is laid, and if no hurricanes delay the plan, it should be ready by Christmas.
Deacon Mark Arnold explains that the $1.2 million project is funded mainly by the government. The two new classrooms will be 300 square feet bigger than before, and everything will be accessible for students or teachers who need a wheelchair.
The old building, constructed in the 1950ies, was not functioning anymore. The new version should last for at least a hundred years. Project Manager Jeff Vanderhook is happy with the progress and explains that the biggest challenge right now is to secure all the building materials: “We have to wait 12 weeks for windows and 16 for doors.”
Students should be able to use the new building by the beginning of the Spring semester. The provisory building that now houses the library and the lab will be demolished.
