Bishop Michael Mulvey led a Prayer Service at the Corpus Christi Cathedral to open National Catholic Schools Week on Tuesday, Jan 27. He told the students to set their "eyes on Jesus Christ."
"There is nothing greater than him," Bishop Mulvey said. "Share him with others. He is the way, the truth and the life."
The bishop told students that he had received his entire education in Catholic schools, from first grade through seminary.
Students from Incarnate Word Academy and St. John Paul II high schools read Scripture readings and offered the prayers of the faithful. The school principals of both schools also participated in the prayer offerings.
"We celebrate…all who contribute to the growth and success of Catholic schools," diocesan school superintendent Rene Gonzales said.
The Catholic Communications Network broadcast the prayer service live over the Internet.
