Incarnate Word Academy High School Level Mission Team spent Spring Break serving the Vidor and Rockport communities tarnished by Hurricane Harvey several months ago.

The Mission Team began their trip March 11 in Vidor where they helped local homeowners clean debris from yards, dug roofing tiles from out of the ground, hung dry wall and painted houses. Students also cleaned and organized the Nehemiah’s Vision Mission Center, which is currently in the process of reopening its doors to house volunteers still sorely needed in the community. Hand in hand, students prayed alongside Vidor residents who are tirelessly working toward a full recovery of their homes.

Students also visited the Schoenstatt Shrine in Rockport to reflect on their faith, grow in their strength, and continue to build their friendships with one another. While in Rockport, Mission Team members took time to clean debris from the roads and fill in huge holes left behind by trees, which had toppled over during extreme weather conditions. The students ended their trip March 16 with a family feast in Rockport before heading back to Corpus Christi.
"Through their faith, talents, skills and service, the students were truly able to ‘be the church,’” IWA Campus Minister Ashley Cartwright said. “The students’ dedication to mission projects is a perfect example of IWA’s recognition of God’s blessings and commitment to sharing with others in school, family, and community.”
Throughout the year, the IWA Mission Team commits their time and efforts to serving others within the Coastal Bend and surrounding areas through hard work, prayer and worship.
