The Diocese of Corpus Christi kicked off the 2012 National Migration Week entitled “Welcoming Christ in the Migrant” with the annual Mass of Evangelization and Culture.
The celebration, which was held at Corpus Christi Cathedral on Jan. 27, began with the recitation of the holy rosary in different languages followed by the procession of flags representing countries from around the world.
Lee Gwozdz, Music Director for the Diocese of Corpus Christ directed music from a variety of languages. Msgr. Michael Heras concelebrated the Mass with other priests from the diocese.
Immediately following Mass the 400 attendees sampled ethnic foods prepared by several different cultures.
Father Leo Patalinghug, host of “Grace before Meals,” brought an added bonus to the annual multicultural celebration, as he entertained by cooking up his favorite dish called “Fr. Leo’s Funky Fusion Fajitas.”
"Father Leo gave a scriptural basis while he chopped up food,” Jaime Reyna, coordinator of the event said. “Even those who had food booths came out to listen, laugh and learn.”
Father Patalinghug will be one of the speakers at the upcoming Youth Spectacular April 22 for middle school and April 29 for high school.
