Incarnate Word Academy Middle Level students in Howard Ludlow’s robotics classes learned how the use of robotics is beneficial in the field of prosthetics on Oct. 1.
Scott Vicknair, a local prosthetist at Corpus Christi Prosthetics, visited with IWA Middle Level robotics classes and talked about the use of robotics in prosthetic hands and its increasing use in other prosthetics.
This is the first year in IWA history that the robotics class is offered.
Ludlow, who also teaches math and algebra, said he spent this past summer at the National Robotics Engineering Center in Pittsburg preparing for this year’s robotics classes.
The classes allow students to do hands-on programming using custom-built robots while teaching them about the use of robotics for industrial purposes.
“The class teaches not only programming, but provides insight into the digital world that they’re going to live in forever,” Ludlow said.
