CORPUS CHRISTI - The Blessed Pope John Paul II High School Centurions softball team overpowered the Northland Christian Cougars from Houston in the first round of the TAPPS 4A softball play-offs. The Centurions handed the visitors a crushing 13-0 defeat on Monday, April 30.
Desiree Lopez got the win, upping her record to 16-1. She struck out seven batters on her way to a one-hit performance. Lopez contributed to her win with a home run and a double, scoring twice and contributing two RBIs.
Kiani Ramsey went 3-4, including a double and a triple, scored a run and had three RBIs. Allison Leija scored two runs and had an RBI on two doubles. Alaniss Galvan scored twice and had two RBIs on a double. Christiana Romero also had a double that brought in two runs. Brianna Vasquez and Ariana Escobar each had a hit and two RBIs.
The Centurions will meet the winner of the Dallas Baptist-Midland Christian playoff game in the second round of the playoffs at a time and place yet to be determined.
