Celeste Ballien, a senior at Blessed John Paul II High School, is the third recipient of the General Marc Cisneros Award. Ballien was chosen out of the entire student body for this prestigious award, which also carries a scholarship.
Following the weekly Mass on Wednesday, Sept. 4, retired Gen. Cisneros presented Ballien with the award then joined her and her family for a private reception. Students sat with eyes affixed to the retired general as he spoke of his experiences in the wars and on his family ranch in Premont.
The decorated war veteran and current CEO of the Kenedy Memorial Foundation advised the young men and women to show appreciation to their parents and loved ones who have given them the opportunity to attend a Catholic school. He said that attending a Catholic school made the difference in his life.
To be considered for the General Cisneros Award at Blessed John Paul II High School, the student must exemplify the Cisnero’s good character and leadership skills. Ballien is currently ranked number one at the school and is a member of the National Honors Society, Spanish Honors Society and Art Club. She is in discernment about her college plans but may follow in her older brother’s collegiate footsteps by attending the University of Texas.
