Jazz Mass brings joy into the hearts of many

St. Patrick Church was filled to capacity at the 2014 Annual Jazz Mass on Oct. 19. In his homily, Pastor Msgr. Roger Smith spoke on citizenship, responsibility and the giving of ourselves to others.

"We are all called to use our God given talents and the Jazz Mass is a way for these musicians to give their talents back to God by bringing joy into the hearts of others," he said.

About 30 musicians 'gave back' their talents at the Jazz Mass. They included the Holy Cross Catholic Church Choir and the Jazz Mass Choir, who led the singing and was directed by Marsha Hardeman. Texas Jazz Festival musicians, directed by Eddie Olivares, accompanied both choirs. Olivares was one of the founders of the Texas Jazz Festival Society.
