IWA students participate in a professional etiquette contest

Incarnate Word Academy Middle Level participated in six rounds of a professional etiquette contest, the Amazing Angel Shake. The rounds focused on manners, discipline, respect, and professional conduct. Students were introduced to the nuances of professional human interaction as they learned important soft skills such as giving a proper handshake, providing high-quality answers in interviews, and remaining composed under pressure. 

During five of the rounds of the Amazing Angel Shake, IWA students triumphed through a blitz of 15 one-on-one interviews, a case-scenario obstacle course, making great first impressions with prominent community members, and showing a house to prospective buyers (judges).

Judges included: Hicks Layton, Hicks Automotive Group; Judith Talavera, President & CEO of AEP Texas; Al Arreola Jr., President & CEO of United Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce; Amy Koch ‘87, Benefits and Trust Fund Manager of Tejas Management Systems, former IWA Board of Directors, IWA alumnus, & former IWA parent; Celina Lopez Leon, Leon Law PLLC; Dr. Michele Johnson, Executive Director of Catholic Charities & the Mother Teresa Shelter; and Emily Dodd, Regional Sales Manager of HOLT CAT.

During round six, “The Heat is On,” the five remaining student finalists participated in a moderated panel interview in front of a live audience and a panel of judges. IWA Angels Ella Molly, Emily Swenson, and Randal Martini won the Amazing Angel Shake, earning the title of the 2022 Amazing Angel Shake champions and will be headed to the National Amazing Shake in March 2023 at the Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta, Georgia.
