CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Incarnate Word Academy sixth grader Gabriel Rauen has qualified to compete in the State Geography Bee on April 5 at the Pat May Center in Bedford, Texas.
The state winner will receive $100, the “Complete National Geographic on DVD” and an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C. to represent the state of Texas in the National Geographic Bee from May 20-22.
The national winner will receive a $25,000 college scholarship, a lifetime membership in the National Geographic Society and a trip to the Galapagos Islands, courtesy of Lindblad Expeditions and National Geographic. This year’s National Geographic Bee is sponsored by Google.
Gabriel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Rauen Jr. of Corpus Christi, said he is excited about the possibility of winning at the State Geography Bee.
“I study every day,” Gabriel said. “I’ve been interested in geography since I was about five.”
"Gabriel’s dedication to his studies is a perfect example of how IWA forms its students in a loving and challenging environment where the individual gifts of every student are recognized, celebrated, and developed as a reflection of Christ," IWA Academy Spokesperson, Dominique Damian said.
