The Incarnate Word Academy High School Level mock trial team is headed to compete in the Texas High School State Mock Trial Competition in Dallas from March 5-7 after making it to the championship round and finishing in second place at the Region 2 High School Mock Trial Competition on Feb. 7 at the Nueces County Courthouse.
The mock trial team will depart from the IWA campus March 5 and will return to campus on Sunday, March 8.
About 100 students from 10 area schools participated in the regional competition.
IWA senior Joshua Rasmussen received third place for best attorney and senior Pedram Salamat received fourth place for best witness — earning both of them cash scholarships.
The mock trial team consists of three student attorneys: Michelle Ndwaru, Julio Ramos, and Joshua Rasmussen; and six student witnesses: Sofia Aguirre, Sean Dinh, Taylor Jones, Pedram Salamat, Alma Oliva Tamez, Gabriella Vargas, and time keeper Janel Soliz.
The team's advisor is Debra Rodriguez and school sponsor is Tabitha Duncan-Pitts.
