IWA celebrates the life
of Dr. Hector P. Garcia

Incarnate Word Academy held a memorial Mass on, Wednesday, Sept. 17, in the convent chapel of the Sisters of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament on the occasion of Dr. Hector P. Garcia Day.

Cecilia Garcia-Akers, daughter of the late Dr. Garcia spoke to the students on the importance of education. She is the president and chairman of the Dr. Hector P. Garcia Memorial Foundation.

The family of Dr. Garcia has a close personal relationship with Incarnate Word Academy. All of his daughters are graduates of IWA and two of his granddaughters are currently enrolled in IWA. He was also the personal physician of the Sisters of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament for many years.

Dr. Hector P. Garcia Day is a day set forth by the Texas legislature to honor the civil rights leader.
