Students at Incarnate Word Academy (IWA) returned to school on Monday, Aug. 8, ahead of many students in the Coastal Bend area. IWA, which was founded in 1871 by the Sisters of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament, educates all grade levels: IWA Elementary Level-Montessori (Age 3-grade 5), IWA Elementary Level-Traditional (grades K4- 5), IWA Middle Level (grades 6-8), and IWA High School Level (grades 9-12).
This year, IWA is celebrating the 145th anniversary of the school.
On the first day of school, students began the day with a prayer and participated in different classroom activities. Elementary Level and Middle Level students had an early dismissal at noon, while High School Level students had a full class day. In addition, Middle Level students celebrated the new school year with a social at the James R. Dougherty, Jr. Center.
“IWA educates the whole person: integrating the intellectual, spiritual, emotional, moral, and physical development of the child,” President and CEO Sammie H. Grunwald said. “Students at IWA experience Christian community while they grow in commitment to Gospel values and cultivate a life-long love for learning and service.”
IWA has open enrollment for students throughout the year and tuition assistance is available. For more information about admissions and scheduling a tour of the campus, visit www.iwacc.org/admissions.
