Incarnate Word Academy is recognizing the week of Oct. 21-25 as National Bullying Prevention Week to encourage everyone to take an active role in the bullying prevention movement. October is National Bullying Prevention Month.
The school will hold a Unity Day on Tuesday, Oct. 22, to unite against bullying. All students, faculty, and staff will wear orange on this day to send a message to “Make it Orange and Make it End.” Unity Day, which was recognized nationally on Oct. 9, is being recognized on Tuesday since students were on Fall Break on Oct. 9.
This week also includes classroom discussions and projects, posters across campus, prayer in the classroom, and orange ribbons across campus lockers and cubbies. In addition, students will be given anti-bullying wristbands to show support for National Bullying Prevention Month. The wristbands state “Bullying Ends With Me.”
Beginning Monday, Oct. 21,, IWA Middle Level students will work on anti-bullying posters in Andrea Limke’s art class. Throughout the day, IWA Elementary Level students will write kind compliments for each of their classmates. IWA High School Level students will participate in classroom discussions and prayer.
On Wednesday, Oct. 23, students at the IWA Elementary Level will attend a short presentation of the “Warm Fuzzy” story at 8:15 a.m., and then attend Mass from 8:30-9:30 a.m. The story is about a village that is full of kindness, love and compassion. The town hands out “warm fuzzies” to each other in kindness. After Mass, students will find “warm fuzzies” waiting for them in their classrooms.
On Thursday, Oct. 24, IWA Elementary Level students will participate in different classroom discussions on hurtful words and actions, and how they could hurt someone’s feelings.
IWA’s recognition of National Bullying Prevention Month is an example of its recognition of God’s blessings and commitment to sharing them with others in school, family, Church and the community.
