Sister Margaret Patrice Bradley, 85, a sister of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament, died peacefully Aug. 9, with her sisters praying at her bedside.
Born Catherine Theresa Bradley, on April 10, 1930, in Long Island, New York, Sister Margaret Patrice was the daughter of Patrick Bradley and Margaret O'Callahan Bradley. She was received as a novice March 15, 1947; made first profession of vows March 29, 1948; and made her perpetual profession April 21, 1951.
Sister Margaret Patrice earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Incarnate Word College, San Antonio, and a Master's degree in religious education from St. Mary's University in San Antonio. She served as an educator for more than 50 years, teaching in the following schools: Our Lady of Consolation (Vattmann), Our Lady of Victory (Beeville), St. Gertrude (Kingsville), St. Elizabeth (Alice), Immaculate Conception (Goliad), IWA (Brownsville), Blessed Sacrament (Laredo) and St. Patrick, St. Theresa, Sacred Heart, Christ the King and Incarnate Word Academy, Elementary and Montessori, in Corpus Christi. Sister was principal at St. Gertrude School, Immaculate Conception School in Goliad, and Our Lady Star of the Sea in Port Isabel. She also taught CCD classes for many years.
Other areas of ministry in which Sister Margaret Patrice participated included that of sister-in-charge in various parochial convents, serving on many commissions and committees of the congregation, and as a delegate to the congregation's General Chapter.
Sister Margaret Patrice is survived by her sisters, Christina Bradley of the Bronx New York; Peggy McGurrin of Wantagh, Long Island, New York; Sister Christina and Sister Marian Bradley of Corpus Christi; several nieces and nephews; a cousin, Sister Mary Camelia Herlihy, IWBS; and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Patrick and Margaret Bradley, her brother Dennis Bradley, and her sisters Nora Clark and Betty Howard.
Funeral services will take place Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2015, at Incarnate Word Academy Chapel, 2930 South Alameda, with reception of the body at 1 p.m. and a rosary service at 1:15 p.m. The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m., with interment at Rose Hill Memorial Park in Corpus Christi.
