Health Career Club members used CPR mannequins to train almost 30 different classes, grades 9 - 12.
The St. John Paul II High School Health Careers Club recently received a “Community Champions” grant from Constellation, an Exelon Company. The $500 grant was used to supplement funds to purchase CPR training kits from The American Heart Association CPR in the Schools Program.
More than 350,000 out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrests occur annually, and 70 percent of cardiac arrests occur at home.
The club’s project “CPR for ALL” goal is to train the entire student body at St. John Paul II High School in the fundamentals of the life-saving skills of Hands-Only CPR. The training was presented through almost 30 different classes, grades 9 - 12.
These grants are awarded to selected applicants across the country for the purpose of community service projects. Club sponsor and academic adviser Ted Garcia applied for the grant available to StarTex Power Constellation customers. The St. John Paul II High School PTO also supported the project.
