The Lady Angels will depart for Waco at 12:30 p.m. and will compete in their TAPPS 5A State Semifinals game against Houston Second Baptist School on March 2.
This year's appearance at the TAPPS State Tournament will be the first for the IWA girls’ varsity basketball program in over 17 years, according to head coach Malcolm Smith.
“These girls aren’t taking the situation or any of the teams they’re about to play lightly,” Smith said. “If the girls play as hard as they’ve been playing, they’ll have a shot at this.”
Leading into the playoffs, the Lady Angels were ranked fourth in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches poll.
Incarnate Word Academy will host a sendoff for the girls’ varsity basketball team throughout the High School Level building at 12 p.m. on Thursday, March 1.
