Former local scout achieves Eagle Scout rank

Russell Thomas Green earned the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest award of the Boy Scouts of America, at the Troop 1324 Eagle Scout Court of Honor held on April 22, in Spring, Texas.

Russell began scouting in Cub Scout Pack 166 at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church in Corpus Christi, Texas, in the second grade. He earned the Arrow of Light, the highest award in cub scouting, in 2005. He then became a member of Boy Scout Troop 87 at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church in Corpus Christi, where he earned 29 merit badges and became a member of the Order of the Arrow. He completed Trek #706-L3 at Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico, in July 2009.

In August 2009, Russell moved with his parents to Spring and transferred to Troop 1324 at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church, where he completed requirements for the rank of Eagle Scout.

For his Eagle Scout project, Russell planned, designed and organized the construction and installation of two sets of benches, each forming a square surrounding large pine trees, at Circle Lake Retreat Center, in Pinehurst, Texas. Retreatants use the benches during group prayer, meditation and private prayer.

Russell graduated from Klein Collins High School in Spring in June. He is the son of Bill and Lori Green of Spring and the grandson of Herman and Rosalie Bohuslav of Corpus Christi, and A. Lee and Verna Green of Weslaco, Texas, and the late Joan Green.
