Catholics will battle for their religious freedom on the big screen starting June 1 with the movie debut of “For Greater Glory: The True Story of the Cristiada.” This motion picture tells the epic, untold story of the Cristero War and a Mexico’s quest for religious liberty.
In anticipation of the movie’s release, the Texas Catholic Conference hosted a screening of the movie and interviewed Victor Pap, Vice President of Marketing and Outreach of the Maximus Group, who is promoting the film across the country.
The movie tells the heroic true story of Mexican Catholics, or Cristeros, who fought the efforts of the Mexican government to crush the Catholic Church in the early twentieth century and who went on to become martyrs for the faith, some of whom have since been canonized and beatified. Starring actors include Academy Award nominees Peter O'Toole, Andy Garcia, and Eva Longoria.
The film’s portrayal of the lengths that Catholics take to protect their religious liberty is particularly relevant now, as the U.S. Bishops lead Catholics across the nation in calling for defense of first amendment rights, and most recently a Fortnight for Freedom June 21-July 4.
