Congressional Art Competition to senior Samuel Lathrop (left). Pictured with the winner and the congressman is IWA art teacher Kathy Towers. According to the U.S. House of Representatives Web site, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition each spring to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Students submit entries to their representative’s office, and panels of district artists select the winning entries. Winners from each state will be recognized in June at an annual awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. The winning works will be displayed for one year from
June 2014 to June 2015 in the tunnel of the U.S. Capitol.
