Catholic School Week is in full swing. At Incarnate Word Academy, the students prepare a big Angel Expo & Student Showcase on Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm in the Mother Patricia Gunning Gymnasium. This morning, it was Grandparents Day. They had just left, and teachers and staff were returning the students to their classrooms. Time for a little survey: What do the students appreciate about their school? The IWA 3rd, 4th and 5th graders are all eager to share what they like about being at IWA: “The library,” “I like science and history,” “Spelling and reading:” Each one of them has a different favorite. Zoe says, “Every day is a new experience – we do something new and learn about God.” Ana Sofia, 5th grade, knows why she likes Catholic schools: “They teach me to follow God… and I can follow Him by being kind.” Fabricio comes up with many things: “I like to learn about God; I like science; I like English… and being with my friends.” Many of the students immediately link God and the subjects they learn. Dalyn says, “I’ve been in Catholic School for five years now, and I like that we learn a lot of stuff. We learn about God! And I especially like Art and History.” “We learn more about God and what He created,” adds Joseph. “And the teachers are the best.” For many of them, the library is their favorite place. “We do a lot of activities,” says Tomy. And Claire adds, “The teachers help me with things that were difficult for me, like reading. And now I’ve improved a lot.”
