Bishop Michael Mulvey has asked all the parishes in the Diocese of Corpus Christi to take up a collection at all Sunday Masses, Jan. 9 – 10, for disaster relief in the Diocese of Dallas. Countless families have lost everything–homes, cars, furniture and family mementos–in the historic storms that spawned at least nine tornadoes in North Texas that resulted in 11 deaths and damage expected to top $1billion.
"I am extremely grateful to all of you who have contacted me to ask how your diocese can help. I have been advised that monetary donations are what are most needed now and in the near future. These funds can be used to assist storm victims with temporary housing, meals, etc. that will be needed until they can rebuild or relocate," Dallas Bishop Kevin J. Farrell said.
Bishop Farrell said he would ask Catholic Charities and St. Vincent de Paul to use the money to offer the emergency assistance to those impacted by the devastating storms.
"I sincerely thank you for your concern and kindness during this very difficult time for us here in the Dallas area. I humbly ask that you and the people of your diocese continue to pray for those who lost their lives, their families, and all those affected by this tragedy," Bishop Farrell said in a letter to Bishop Mulvey.
